We continue learning how to step back & look up towards God when we are struggling with temptation.
The difference between wanting more and
begin content.
Do you
remember the scripture we read yesterday? How did Satan convince Eve to disobey
God? When Adam and Eve lived in the garden was there something they lacked?
It would be safe to say Eve had it all, however Satan still managed to tempt her to take matters into her own hands. Eve took the bait after deciding she could have more.....
physical pleasure...."good for food"
material possessions...."a delight to the eyes"
significance....."desired to make one wise"
Satan
presents a different reality to us that is always outside of God's will. At
times it might seem like the right path to follow and we decide we want the
sinful pleasure more than we want to follow God's will. Who gives us the idea
that we want more? Who can bring contentment in our life?
1 John 2:14-16
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life - is not from the Father but is from the world.

Matthew 4:1-11
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written,
“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,’
and
“‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,
“‘You shall worship the Lord your God
and him only shall you serve.’”
and him only shall you serve.’”
11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
Pray - Thank God for His word and the power it brings in our lives. Ask God to show what verses you can hold on to when you are tempted.
