We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
Not only is the Lord our hope, He is our shield. In ancient Israel, the concept that a person’s King was their shield was a common one. Shield here means protector. My king will protect me. You were only as safe as your King was strong. What a concept, or mind picture. Think of it, the King of Kings will not only help me in my time of need, He will also protect me in the midst of it. As we meditate on this, (really get it), and put our hope in him, we are filled with unspeakable joy. But He’s not done yet! He’s not only shielding us, helping us, and filling us; His love, that will never fail, rests upon us (like a warm blanket), and in this hope, life is good.
Do you know the Lord as your shield? Take a minute to ask Him to reveal this to you for the first time or in a deeper way. He will never disappoint you.
