Psalm 40:9-17

I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, as you know, O LORD.  I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.  Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always protect me.  For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me. Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me.  May all who seek to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.  May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be appalled at their own shame.  But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "The LORD be exalted!"  Yet I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay. (NIV)

  1. My favorite prayer is also "Jesus, son of David have mercy on me,Claire!" When I know a friend is really struggling I pray the same prayer and I say their name instead of saying "me" ...have mercy on _______

Luke 18:35 As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” 38 And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” 42 And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” 43 And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

  2. As I read this passage, I think of the severe storms that ravaged Dexter not too long ago. After the storm had passed that night, the clouds broke and the sun came out for just a few minutes. It was long enough for me to see the orange glow of the sunset. It was a beautiful reminder to me of how God always brings peace and calm sometime during, and always after, the storms of life.

In the ESV, verse 11 reads this way: "As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me!"
